Sky-High Heels Take Center Stage at Star-Studded Fashion Fête
Last night saw legions of fashionable celebrities flock to the industry’s most anticipated event of the year. While bold prints, vibrant colors and avant-garde silhouettes certainly made statements on the red carpet, it was shoes that stole the spotlight. Specifically, gravity-defying heels in every incarnation captivated both attendees and audiences alike with their vertiginous heights and scene-stealing drama.
From soaring stiletto heels to platform-soled mules, sandals and more, various shoe silhouettes added a dynamic edge to celebrities’ outfits for the fashionable occasion. Many opted for towering styles with thick bases, like Kim Kardashian, Dove Cameron and Winnie Harlow. Others, including Jane Krakowski and Coco Rocha, opted for height-boosting footwear with thin heels for a dramatic flair.
Jane Krakowski brought textured drama in a pair of black platform sandals with strappy uppers and 5-inch heels. The “30 Rock” star’s heels further elevated her attire: a sheer black Cynthia Rowley minidress covered in colorful flowers and frothy feathers. Meanwhile, Coco Rocha towered in avant-garde style with pale pink satin pumps featuring thick platform soles, pointed toes and pin-thin heels. The set boosted her Christian Siriano look for the evening, which featured a similarly soft pink skirt with a black bodice and dramatic black hat.
Winnie Harlow embraced Marc Jacobs’ hit Kiki boots, hitting the carpet in a black leather iteration with signature buckled front straps, platform soles and thick block heels. The pair added sleek elevation to her black polka-dotted Jacobs dress and gleaming diamond jewelry. Emily Ratajkowski also opted for Kiki boots, choosing a brown leather pair that complemented her Michael Kors cutout gown. The model’s chocolate-hued platforms added ‘70s flair to her leg-baring ensemble.
Dove Cameron went for gilded glamour in glittering gold platform sandals, featuring crisscrossing straps across the toes and ankles. The metallic set aligned with her shimmering Paco Rabanne minidress, which was also doused in sequins. Meanwhile, Natasha Lyonne buckled into black leather combat boots with a boost from chunky lug soles. The edgy footwear grounded her voluminous green gown.
In the midst of platform soles and steep inclines, some still favored ultra-thin heels. Case in point: Taylor Hill, who strutted in pointed-toe black pumps with stiletto heels and PVC accents. The barely-there heels allowed her jewel-toned Area mini to take center stage. La La Anthony also went dainty in a pair of clear vinyl pumps with a sparkling finish, complementing her glittering dress.
While daring footwear punctuated many red carpet looks, heels also took to the stage when accepting awards. Halsey gave her speech elevated in lace-up black platforms boots with grommets and razor-thin heels. The overall look aligned with her ethereal Peter Do gown, which also featured corseted accents and graphic cutouts.
Last night proved that when it comes to making an entrance, heels are still haute. Stars embraced height-boosting styles from platforms to stilettos, straps to buckles, in a range of colors and silhouettes. But despite their differences, the variety of gravity-defying heels similarly captivated audiences with each sky-high step.
