Selena’s Secret Stench
Pop sensation Selena Gomez is no stranger to sweet smells, from her saccharine hit songs to her intoxicating persona. However, a recently lawsuit has aired some dirty laundry, suggesting everything isn’t always rosy in Selena’s world.
In 2013, retail company Adrenalina Inc. filed a lawsuit against the songstress for breach of contract. As alleged in court documents, Adrenalina spent nearly $2 million developing a perfume line for Gomez to endorse. But when it came time to sign on the dotted line, Selena reportedly backed out at the last minute.
While Gomez never confirmed nor denied the claims, her legal team fired back that she refused to work with Adrenalina due to concerns about the company’s financial stability. “Selena backed out of the deal when she learned Adrenalina was in dire financial straits,” her attorney Michael Weinstein told TMZ. “She reasonably believed Adrenalina could never fulfill its contractual obligations.”
In the fickle fragrance business, Selena likely didn’t want her name tied to a potentially failing enterprise. After all, her star power relies on her squeaky-clean, down-to-earth image. A bankrupted perfume could stink up her brand.
Still, Adrenalina insisted they upheld their monetary duties in developing the scent and deserved compensation. In a tit-for-tat, Selena then sued Adrenalina for $5.2 million for withholding their financial woes during negotiations.
While the legal ramifications remain unresolved, this isn’t the first time Selena’s business dealings turned sour. She previously cut ties with her mom Mandy Teefey as manager in 2014.
For now, Selena seems focused on her music and makeup line Rare Beauty. And while she may not be launching her own fragrance anytime soon, her fans continue to devour her sweet, addictive hits. The only stench lingering is whatever remains from this messy lawsuit.
