Billie Eilish accepted the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on Thursday night.
On Thursday evening, Billie Eilish attended the 35th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards ceremony to accept the Chairman’s Award alongside her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas. The musical duo was honored for their song “What Was I Made For?” which appeared on the soundtrack for the highly anticipated 2023 film “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie.
Ever the style iconoclast, Eilish made a subtly defiant style statement on the red carpet in a pair of thick-soled black leather loafers. The chunky slip-on shoes featured equestrian-inspired silver horse bit hardware across the rounded toe, lending a polished yet playful energy to the look. She styled the shoes with ankle-grazing white socks, allowing the preppy sensibility of the footwear to shine through.
The rest of Eilish’s outfit echoed the lighthearted mood, featuring an oversized black hoodie with a white button-down layered underneath. She coupled the top with slouchy pleated trousers and a colorful Gucci headscarf wrapped around her signature neon green hair. A backpack adorned with the Playboy bunny as well as her customary delicate silver necklaces and stack of rings polished off her signature aesthetic fusion of feminine and tomboyish touches.
After receiving a tribute from Barbie director Greta Gerwig, Eilish accepted the award alongside her brother and collaborator, Finneas. “I would really like to say that this award and any recognition that this song gets, I just want to dedicate to anyone who experiences hopelessness, the feeling of existential dread and feeling like, what’s the point, why am I here and why am I doing this?” Eilish said.
Eilish, who has been candid about her mental health struggles in the past, added: “I just want to say to anyone that feels that way, be patient with yourself and know that it is, I think, worth it all.” Eilish also explained that when she and Finneas, 26, were approached to work on the Barbie soundtrack, she “was in a dark episode and things didn’t make sense in life. I just didn’t understand what the point was and why you would keep going.
While Eilish frequently opts for sneakers on the red carpet, she demonstrated her sartorial range by stepping out in the polished yet punk-ish loafers. The laceless slip-on silhouette offers a more refined alternative to her go-to casual kicks, while still retaining the comfortable ease the singer favors. With this latest awards show ensemble, Eilish proves her prowess as a style icon is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
