Margot Robbie Stuns in Sheer Corset and Velvet Flares at ‘Barbie’ Premiere
Margot Robbie captivated the red carpet at the star-studded Los Angeles premiere of her new film ‘Barbie’ last night. The Australian actress embodied retro-glam Barbie vibes in a sultry sheer corset and sweeping velvet trousers from Schiaparelli’s Fall 2022 haute couture collection. Designed by Daniel Roseberry, Robbie’s daring look juxtaposed femininity with an edgy aesthetic.
The corset featured a plunging sweetheart neckline, boning throughout, and long sleeves – providing a seductive peek at Robbie’s décolletage. It was crafted from black floral lace dotted with shimmering black beads. The velvet trousers hung low on Robbie’s hips, cut wide through the legs with a kick flare hem that trailed behind her dramatically. A nod to the 70s, the bold pants made a striking statement. Robbie finished the look with classic pointed-toe Manolo Blahnik pumps in black patent leather.
Keeping accessories minimal, she wore sparkling chainlink earrings by Roseark – letting the glamorous Schiaparelli ensemble take center stage. With her blonde hair swept back in tousled waves and a touch of berry lipstick, Robbie exuded Hollywood bombshell vibes. “Margot looks incredible in the custom Schiaparelli couture look I designed for her ‘Barbie’ premiere,” said stylist Andrew Mukamal. “It’s edgy yet still has an elegant femininity to it – perfect for her role as the iconic Barbie doll.”
Directed by Greta Gerwig, ‘Barbie’ offers a fresh twist on the iconic Mattel toy. The film explores Barbie’s expulsion from Barbieland for failing to adhere to its perfection standards. Robbie takes on the title role alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken. Given Robbie’s affinity for fashion, she was the perfect choice to bring Barbie’s signature style to life.
“I wanted to retain some of the quintessential elements of Barbie while modernizing and elevating her look,” explained Mukamal. “The Schiaparelli corset and trousers achieve the glamour and playfulness we were going for.” The custom couture look certainly made a splash on the pink carpet.
Amongst the star-studded ‘Barbie’ cast at the premiere was Oscar-nominee Emerald Fennell radiant in forest green. The Victorian-inspired gown by Erdem featured lace embellishments and a leg slit. Carey Mulligan dazzled in graphic glam – pairing a black off-the-shoulder blazer from Balmain’s Spring 2023 collection with a high-shine silver foil skirt.
Jennifer Salke of Amazon Studios (who distributed ‘Barbie’) rocked an edgy black turtleneck, leather trousers, and a tailored white blazer. The menswear-inspired look provided the perfect contrast to the ultra-feminine styles of Robbie, Fennell, and Mulligan.
With ‘Barbie’ set to hit theaters next summer, get ready for more show-stopping style moments from Robbie. The fashion darling has already proven her affinity for haute couture and willingness to take risks on the red carpet. If her Schiaparelli premiere ensemble is any indication, we can expect many jaw-dropping looks to come as she promotes the hotly anticipated film.
