The Original Super Returns in Signature Style
The queen of the catwalk has reclaimed her throne. Linda Evangelista, one of the original supermodels who ruled the runways in the late 80s and 90s, made a stylish return to the public eye this week, proving her fashion reign is far from over.
Attending the WSJ Magazine 2022 Innovator Awards on Wednesday night, the 58-year-old modeled a look that exuded her signature elegance and flair. Opting for a crisp winter white turtleneck and sleek black blazer with matching wide-leg trousers, Evangelista embodied sophisticated chic. With her auburn locks styled straight and sleek, a nod to the fierce coifs of the power suit-clad working women of the 80s, and a dazzling pair of earrings providing a subtle touch of sparkle, the supermodel looked as though she had stepped right out of the decade that launched her to fame.
Ever the advocate of standing tall, Evangelista completed the knockout look with a pair of black pointy-toe heels, proving her affinity for vertiginous heights has not waned over the years. She may have traded in some skyscraper stilettos for more sensible lifts, but Linda Evangelista still knows how to walk the walk.
While the Canadian stunner has largely shied away from the spotlight in recent years, this marked her triumphant return to the public arena following a period of self-described ‘hiding.’ After alleging that she suffered physical side effects from a cosmetic procedure gone wrong, Evangelista is now re-emerging on the scene, celebrating herself and her storied career.
“I’m totally in celebration mode,” she told WSJ Magazine ahead of the event, adding, “I’m at a place where I’m so happy celebrating my book, my life. I’m so happy to be alive.”
It seems the supermodel is also celebrating her signature style. The minimalist chic ensemble she selected for her return to the red carpet exemplified the refined, almost architectural, aesthetic she became known for in her heyday. Whether dressed in Versace safety pins or runway gowns for Chanel, the designer houses she walked for along with Campbell, Crawford and Turlington, Evangelista always cut a striking silhouette.
Now, with a new book of iconic images from photographer Steven Meisel about to hit shelves, the catwalk queen has reclaimed both her personal and sartorial space. No longer hiding, she is boldly proclaiming she’s still got it by stepping out in a look only Linda could pull off – timeless, self-assured, and unafraid to make a statement.
The super has officially returned, and her standout style reminds us why she reigned supreme in the first place. Here’s to many more show-stopping looks from the one and only Linda Evangelista.
