Taylor’s Reptilian Return: Swift Steps Out in Snakeskin Boots, Hinting at ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’
Long live the friendship between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively. On Wednesday evening, the songstress was spotted dining with her confidante Blake Lively at Lucali Pizza in Brooklyn, clad in a dark emerald velvet frock with none other than a pair of $2,450 Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier tattoo-motif stiletto boots. The kickers in question? Emblazoned with the image of snakes, a motif fans will recall from Swift’s Reputation era of 2017.
It’s not even two weeks into the new year and Taylor has hardly been able to calm down. Not only did she sit front and center with Selena Gomez at the Golden Globes Jan. 7, but she was also spotted leaving the recording studio Jan. 9. Taylor Swift’s Night Out With Brittany Mahomes, Sophie Turner and Blake Lively. And based on her attire Wednesday night, Swifties definitely think that Rep is next. What’s more is that the “Anti-Hero” singer has taken to wearing green while out and about lately, even dressing in the Reputation-esque shade at the 2024 Golden Globes Sunday (Jan. 7).
Might this sartorial selection hint that Swift is ready to re-record and release the gothic Reputation album that first established her edgy transformation? Sources say the songstress has nearly completed Reputation (Taylor’s Version) already, describing it as “a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure” to Time in her 2023 Person of the Year interview. From the venomous green velvet dress to those ophidian boots, it seems Taylor may be subtly indicating the album’s imminent arrival and returning to the dark glamour aesthetic that captivated fans back in 2017.
This isn’t the first recent instance of Swift’s apparent affinity for reptile references resurfacing either. At November’s star-studded girls’ night out with Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne, Swift wore a $63 serpentine ring. Then there was the metallic scaly effect of her Golden Globes Gucci gown, or the black widow-esque ensemble she chose for the VMAs last year. After publicly feuding with Scooter Braun over the rights to her first six albums, Swift has been systematically rerecording and releasing the ‘Taylor’s Version’ of each – might Reputation be next?
If the snake motifs are any indication, we expect Ms. Swift may soon be shedding the glitzy pop skin of Midnights and returning to the darkly romantic rebel spirit of her Reputation era. With bated breath, we await what is sure to be another masterful Taylor’s Version album. Stay tuned, darlings.
