The 50-year-old actress fell unconscious on Sunday, November 23, and was rushed to the hospital after a concerning series of events.
According to Reid’s statement to TMZ, she checked into the hotel on Saturday night and ordered a drink at the hotel bar. After stepping outside for a cigarette, Reid returned to find her drink covered with a napkin that she had not used. Once she removed the napkin and drank from the glass, Reid says she doesn’t remember anything further, except for waking up in the hospital.
Footage obtained by TMZ shows Reid being assisted into a wheelchair by hotel security, appearing disoriented and incoherent. Paramedics later transferred her to the stretcher for medical treatment. Reid, who is reportedly cooperating with the authorities, has filed a police report over the incident, which she believes involved her drink being tampered with.
Her representative, Jane Owen, issued a statement to USA TODAY, confirming that the actress is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. “Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time. She also urges everyone to be careful, watch your drinks, and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone,” Owen said.
This health scare is especially poignant considering Reid’s past struggles with substance abuse. In 2008, the actress entered Malibu’s Promises rehabilitation center and later spoke publicly about her commitment to sobriety. In an interview with InTouch Weekly in 2009, she described her decision to get clean as “the greatest decision I ever made.” Reid shared that she no longer dreaded the future, saying, “Before, I used to think about tomorrow, and I hated it. Now I can’t wait because I am clean and sober and I am excited.”
