Love In Lockdown: Inside Savannah Chrisley’s Prison Romance By Claudia Vaughn, Fashion Features Editor
In these tumultuous times, we could all use a little lighthearted distraction. Enter Savannah Chrisley, the effervescent star of USA’s popular reality series Chrisley Knows Best, who has captivated our hearts with the swoon-worthy story of her new paramour. But this is no ordinary meet-cute – Chrisley’s beau, the dashing Robert Shiver, remains tragically out of reach behind bars.
Shiver’s entanglement in a salacious murder-for-hire plot catapulted him into the public eye last summer when his estranged wife was arrested for attempting to have him killed. While harrowing, the foiled assassination only seemed to fan the flames of Chrisley and Shiver’s burgeoning romance. “She won’t get the chance to meet him,” Chrisley lamented in an exclusive interview, “not while he’s incarcerated.”
Chrisley paints a portrait of Shiver as a prototypical southern gentleman, winning her over despite the circumstances of their first encounter. “It’s a male pride thing,” she explained, chalking up her father Todd’s resistance to meeting Shiver to an alpha showdown between jailbird beaus. Her mother Julie, on the other hand, remains open-minded. “If y’all are gonna end up together I need to meet him,” Julie insists.
As Chrisley awaits the outcome of her parents’ own legal woes, she and Shiver continue their epistolary romance, exchanging letters and photographs from across prison walls. “She is, like, vicariously living through me,” says Chrisley, clearly smitten. “He definitely will meet Mom, for sure.”
While unconventional, Chrisley seems blissfully unfazed by her paramour’s criminal past, referring to him affectionately as her “jailbird Romeo.” The two apparently bonded over shared hardships, as Shiver consoled Chrisley following her parents’ convictions on conspiracy and fraud charges earlier this year.
“Who knows about Dad, but hopefully things go in our favor and they’ll be home sooner than later,” Chrisley added optimistically. For now, she remains confident of her and Shiver’s future, proclaiming boldly: “If y’all are gonna end up together I need to meet him.”
Her courageous open-heartedness in the face of adversity strikes a chord during these challenging times. Chrisley gives us all permission to seek connection and find beauty, even in the most unlikely places. In doing so, she breathes new life into a tale as old as time – love can bloom anywhere, even behind bars
