Selena to Channel Linda Ronstadt in Upcoming Biopic

In an exciting casting announcement, multifaceted talent Selena Gomez has signed on to portray the legendary Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic about the singer-songwriter’s groundbreaking career. Sources close to the film’s producers confirm that Gomez perfectly encapsulates Ronstadt’s captivating stage presence and vocal prowess.

“Selena is the ideal choice to play Linda,” shares producer James Keach. “She has that rare star quality and vocal talent that can capture Linda’s musical essence.”

Known for her wide-ranging musical styles and hits like “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved,” Ronstadt climbed the charts over decades while staying true to her artistic vision. She ultimately won 11 Grammys and sold over 100 million records worldwide before her retirement in 2011 due to health issues.

The biopic will follow Ronstadt’s early days trying to make it in L.A.’s male-dominated ’60s rock scene to her unprecedented success touring with the Eagles and collaborating with top artists from Dolly Parton to Aaron Neville. Along the way, she broke genre barriers and championed rising talents like Bonnie Raitt.

“I’m humbled to have the chance to tell Linda’s incredible story,” says Gomez, who has long been inspired by bold female artists. “Her voice and unwavering resolve created a new paradigm in the music industry.”

Ronstadt, 77, is known for her decades-spanning music career that includes 24 studio albums and the No. 1 hit “You’re No Good.” She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014 and was feted with the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime achievement. She has been diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a degenerative disease that has led her to retire from singing.

Gomez relates to Ronstadt’s Mexican-American roots as well as her drive to constantly reinvent herself. And much like Ronstadt, who acted and sang everything from opera to American standards, Gomez refuses to be pigeonholed, dancing between acting, pop vocals, and producing.

The film will be helmed by Ronstadt’s manager John Boylan along with Keach, producer of the acclaimed 2019 documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.
