The holidays are upon us, darlings, and who better to take entertaining inspiration from than the queen of cool herself, Julia Fox? The actress-model-fashionista has fast become one of the most buzzed about stars on the scene, dazzling us with her daring, avant garde style and delightfully devilish spirit. And in a new interview with Ssense’s HGG, Fox gives us a peek inside her annual Christmas traditions – which are just as fabulously fox as you’d imagine.
“Christmastime with me and my friends is lit,” Fox confessed to Emilia Petrarca. “We go really hard on gifts, and we go hard on the holiday in general.” Leave it to Fox to bring some serious seasonal sizzle. She went on to explain that the festivities are likely so over-the-top to make up for lackluster holidays past. “Probably to make up for not having the Christmases we would have wanted as kids,” Fox shared. How very relatable for those of us that dreamt of sugar plum fairies but got socks instead.
In years past, Fox and her fashionable friends would take over the swanky Bowery Hotel in Manhattan for Christmas. But now that she’s a Hollywood heavyweight, the celebrations take place at her own chic home. However, she’s kept one key tradition from the hotel days: “Christmas morning there was really special,” Fox recalled fondly.
And since Ms. Fox has a heart as big as her collection of Balenciagas, she makes sure to spread the holiday cheer to others as well. “I’ll invite people whose families don’t live close by, or maybe they don’t have a relationship with their family.” Très charitable indeed. Clearly Julia Fox knows it’s not the gifts under the tree, but who you share them with that truly matters.
So what exactly does a Julia Fox Christmas morning entail? It’s a cozy, joyful scene as Fox described: “There are so many of us, we can hardly fit in the room.” My word, it sounds absolutely delightful darling! One can only imagine how impeccably dressed the stylish guests are as they crowd around whatever glamorous tree Fox chose. (Surely it’s not a typical Douglas Fir, but something much more unique and eccentric!)
As for the holiday meal itself, Fox is sticking to her vegan diet with a showstopping vegetable lasagne. Take that, boring turkey and ham! She didn’t divulge the recipe, but we imagine it involves the richest sauces, creamiest cheeses, and most succulent seasonal vegetables. Paired with a biodynamic red wine, it will be the perfect plant-based feast. It’s the kind of meal that makes you feel like you’re at the hippest restaurant in Brooklyn, when you’re in fact gathered around a friend’s table – laughing, loving, and celebrating the season in true Fox fashion.
So as you deck your own halls this year, take a page from Julia Fox’s holiday handbook. Make it a celebration filled with love, joy, fabulosity, and of course fierce gift-giving! Fox says real New Yorkers “go hard” for the holidays, so take that as permission to let your inner fashionista unleash with festive flair. ‘Tis the season for glitz, glam, and just a bit of holiday mischief!
