Ethereal Enchantress: Ariana Grande Awakens the Met Gala in Dreamy Loewe
In a breathtaking display of sartorial brilliance, Ariana Grande dazzled the fashion world at the 2024 Met Gala, hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The multi-talented artist, fresh from the success of her album “Eternal Sunshine” and her highly anticipated role as Glinda in the “Wicked” film adaptation, graced the iconic event with an ensemble that seamlessly blended celestial grace with avant-garde flair.
Stepping onto the hallowed Met steps, Grande captivated onlookers in a custom Loewe creation meticulously crafted by visionary designer Jonathan Anderson. The showstopping piece featured a mother-of-pearl bustier dress adorned with hand-pleated, multi-layered silk chiffon skirts that shimmered with an iridescent nacre mineral-inspired radiance. Anderson’s masterful “sensorial craft techniques” paid homage to nature’s beauty, infusing Grande’s look with an ethereal, otherworldly allure.
“The idea for my outfit was to create an ethereal look, inspired by nature and by the way that mother-of-pearl reflects light,” Grande shared. “Pearl is my birthstone, so it’s very meaningful to me for that reason – as well as the subtle ways in which I feel like it nods to Glinda’s bubble and to Wicked with its subtle opalescent winks of pink and green.”
Beyond the exquisite design, Grande’s ensemble held a deeply personal significance, with the pearl motif serving as a poignant reminder of the resilience and beauty found in unexpected places. “Something so beautiful can be born when you least expect it or in the most unexpected places, like a pearl,” she mused. “Pearls are tiny (sometimes) but strong, and they absorb and reflect the beautiful energy of the world around them—picking up on the pretty colors that they see and shining them right back at you.”
Grande’s ethereal entrance at the Met Gala was a true spectacle, with the artist carried into the event space by a troupe of fairy-like dancers as she lay “sleeping” atop a white pillow. As a gorgeous orchestral arrangement played, Grande “awoke” and launched into a captivating performance of “Once Upon a Dream” from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, paying homage to the evening’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Swathed in a teal chiffon gown, Grande seamlessly transitioned into a mesmerizing set, treating the audience to her chart-topping hits “Yes, And?,” “We Can’t Be Friends,” “7 Rings,” and “Into You.” Her boundless talent and magnetic stage presence left the crowd spellbound, solidifying her status as a true fashion icon and artistic force to be reckoned with.
