Queen Letizia Reigns Supreme in Sculptural Dutch Design
Spain’s ever-stylish Queen Letizia turned heads yet again during her recent visit to the Netherlands. The monarchical trendsetter showcased her sartorial talents by donning pieces from both celebrated Spanish and emerging Dutch designers.
For a visit to the Museum Straat exposition, Letizia stunned in her signature polished yet modern style. She sported her beloved Carolina Herrera slingback pumps, which have become a recurring favorite in her wardrobe rotation. The classic pointed-toe stilettos, in a rich navy hue, perfectly complemented the sophisticated day look.
But it was at an evening event that Letizia truly shone, debuting a custom sculptural masterpiece by breakout Dutch designer Mohamed Benchellal. The showstopping draped gown featured Benchellal’s signature wrap pattern constructed from sweeping folds of cobalt blue fabric. In the designer’s own words, the avant-garde creation “is based on a haute couture wrapping folding technique, where the body is used as a base to mold and cover with fabric to complement its unique features.”
Benchellal’s voluptuous evening confections have quickly made him a fixture on Hollywood red carpets, dressing icons like Sharon Stone, Alicia Keys, and Iris Apfel. But having his sculptural designs embraced by royalty marks a new milestone for the sustainable label, founded in 2015 with a focus on reusing leftover fabrics.
Previously a favored designer of Queen Maxima in the Netherlands, Benchellal can now add Spain’s first lady of style to his impressive roster. As part of the official Dutch visit, Letizia paid homage to her host nation by championing their homegrown talent.
The Moroccan-Dutch creative force wasn’t the only local name represented in Letizia’s impeccably curated wardrobe for the royal tour. She accented the avant-garde Benchellal dress with sleek navy accessories – a clutch and her trusted Carolina Herrera slingbacks – allowing the showpiece gown to take center stage.
For an extra touch of regal glamour, the Queen of Spain adorned her upswept coiffure with spectacular diamond earrings gifted to her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia, by the Sultan of Oman in 1989. The glistening jewels provided the perfect finishing touch to one of Letizia’s boldest and most flattering style statements yet.
Ever the master of balancing sartorial exuberance with poise and sophistication, Queen Letizia solidified her standing as a global fashion force to be reckoned with during her Dutch diplomacy. By melding lauded Spanish designers with dazzling new talents from the Netherlands, she elevated royal dressing to new artistic heights.
