Rappers Engage in Heated Exchange Over Diss Tracks
The hip hop community was set ablaze this week as an ongoing feud between rap titans Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion reached new heights. Mere days after Stallion released her latest empowering yet controversial single “Hiss,” Minaj fired back with an incendiary diss track of her own entitled “Big Foot” – a direct attack on the Houston native and her personal life.
In signature, no-holds-barred fashion, Minaj inhabits her aggressive alter ego Roman as she lyrically assaults Stallion – mocking her over the traumatic shooting she endured in 2020 as well as the loss of her beloved mother. “Swearin’ on your dead mother when you lie,” taunts Minaj, later adding, “Shots thrown, but I still ain’t let Megan score.” She goes on to bash Stallion’s rapping abilities in addition to accusing her of dishonesty.
The feud seems to stem from Stallion’s track “Hiss,” released last Friday, which takes aim at unnamed detractors. Fans have speculated one biting line references Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty’s status as a registered sex offender. Minaj took to social media shortly after its debut to share a snippet of her retaliatory song, announcing “Big Foot” by name – a derisive play on Stallion’s nearly six-foot stature.
Over the weekend, Minaj tweeted heavily about her beef with the Traumazine rapper and made sure to let her feelings about Megan’s song be known. Though the roots of their discord date back further, the feud hit its latest apex with the release of “HISS.” On it, Megan raps the line, “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law. I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.”
While the roots of their quarrel remain vague, tensions have clearly reached a boiling point. Stallion has continued teasing her smash single across platforms, avoiding direct mention of adversaries. Meanwhile Minaj shows no signs of backing down the assault, taunting “This lil’ beggar w—- talkin’ ‘bout Megan’s law” and promising further attacks.
Some also speculate that Megan’s decision to work with Cardi B on “WAP” might have been seen as a slight toward Minaj due to the history between Minaj and Cardi B, two New York rappers whose rocky relationship culminated in an infamous fight at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party in 2018.
The two talents previously collaborated on the 2019 runaway hit “Hot Girl Summer,” leaving fans distraught over their blistering falling out. However, both maintain fervent supporter bases and continue dominating airwaves. The beef promises to be a main headline as their publicity fires burn hot headed into a heated new year.
