Angelina Jolie Puts a Bohemian Twist on Her Signature Long Black Coat
Angelina Jolie is certainly no stranger to an elegantly sweeping black coat. In fact, the garment has become something of a sartorial signature for the Eternals star over the years. However, for Jolie’s latest public sighting this past week, she opted to add an artfully bohemian twist to her go-to outerwear silhouette.
On a visit to her recently launched Atelier Jolie concept store in downtown Manhattan, a locale with deep artistic heritage courtesy of former inhabitants Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jolie bundled up against the winter chill in a long black coat accented by unique embroidered and fabric details. Frayed white canvas patches bearing sketch-style black drawings of figures punctuated the coat’s sleeves and lapels, while a vibrant bronze floral motif decorated the sweeping hemline. The actress cinched in the belted waist for definition, layering the statement topper over an equally eye-catching black jumpsuit with a bold geometric print.
Ever the fashion plate, Jolie grounded the avant-garde ensemble with classic pointed-toe black leather boots boasting a block heel. Large, retro-inspired black sunglasses and a capacious black leather tote bag rounded out the look.
Jolie has certainly never been one to shy away from sartorial risk-taking. However, her latest ensemble suggests she may be taking an even more experimental approach to personal style. The unique coat seems symbolic of Jolie’s new creative venture, Atelier Jolie. Launched just last month, the shop was conceived as a hub for artistic individuals from various backgrounds to connect and collaborate.
As Jolie stated to Bazaar, “There is so much happening that divides us, and it’s essential that we create and share time together. One aspect of today’s world is the push to be like others and follow trends. It doesn’t lead to the place where one feels most alive. Discovery and mistakes are essential for creativity.” She went on to add, “The once-young punk in me wanted to push against what was normal and paint the walls with the people I love. I hope others do, too.”
If the actress’ personalized coat is any indication, Jolie seems fully committed to igniting her inner punk rocker and encouraging creative self-expression. Her artistic message also appears directed at her six children, including 20-year-old son Pax who accompanied his famous mother on a separate visit to Atelier Jolie last week.
While Jolie sported the artistic coat then as well, Pax complemented his mother’s monochromatic look with a burst of cobalt blue via his t-shirt. Still, from knit beanies to black leather boots, this mother-son duo prove creative minds think alike even when it comes to matters of personal style.
