Ready or Not, Kathryn Newton’s New York Style Is Already the Season’s Most Studied Formula
New York City is in the grip of awards season’s lesser-celebrated cousin — the film press circuit — and Kathryn Newton is treating every sidewalk like a set. In town to promote her forthcoming horror-comedy Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which opens in theatres this Friday, the actress has been delivering a succession of looks that balance camera-readiness with genuine street credibility. Her latest outing through the East Village on Wednesday offered perhaps the week’s most considered ensemble.
The centrepiece, and the detail that immediately catches the eye, is Newton’s choice of footwear: Jimmy Choo’s Scarlett pump in white, retailing at $1,095. A key silhouette from the house’s fall 2025 offering, the Scarlett draws from archival references, refreshed with a corset-inspired upper. Delicate lace-up ties cross the toe, finishing with a miniature bow — the kind of refinement that rewards a second look. The heel itself is pure sculptural drama: Jimmy Choo’s signature drop heel, conceived as a frozen droplet of liquid caught mid-fall, paired with a sharply pointed toe. Available also in black, the Scarlett manages to feel both nostalgic and entirely of the moment.

The shoes anchor an outfit that earns its confidence through proportion rather than spectacle. Newton wore a cropped black jacket with oversized sleeves and emphatic shoulders, fastened with gold snap buttons that catch the light without demanding attention. The waist is quietly nipped, gesturing at an hourglass silhouette without theatrics. Below, a high-waisted black midi skirt falls past the calf in a clean, gently flared line — structured, matte fabric that holds its shape and refuses to cling.

The intelligence of the look lies precisely in this tension: the jacket short and sharp against a long, lean skirt. Those opposing lengths prevent the head-to-toe black from reading as heavy or austere. A small white top-handle bag and sheer black tights punctuate the darkness with just enough contrast. Oversized black sunglasses and a simple chain necklace complete the picture — polished, but never laboured.

It is the formula dominating celebrity dressing right now: cropped upper, elongated lower, neutrals throughout. Newton wears it with the ease of someone who has genuinely made it her own.
In Ready or Not 2, she stars alongside Samara Weaving, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and Shawn Hatosy — a cast as precisely assembled as her wardrobe.
