The chatter among the Hollywood elite this morning is focused squarely on the just-announced nominations for the 96th Academy Awards. Leading the pack with 13 nominations is Christopher Nolan’s opus Oppenheimer, a peek behind the curtain at the Manhattan Project and the minds behind the atomic bomb. Close on its radioactive heels with 11 nominations is Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 latest mind-bending feature Poor Things, starring Emma Stone<\/a> in yet another transformative role. As expected, nods for both pictures include Best Picture, Best Director, and a slew of technical awards that showcase the exacting craft behind these two cinematic achievements.<\/p>\n

                                                Instead, the Best Actress race includes newcomer Lily Gladstone for her haunting turn in Martin Scorsese\u2019s Killers of the Flower Moon. With her first nomination, Gladstone makes history as the category\u2019s first Native American nominee.<\/p>\n

                                                As for the leading men, it seems the Academy favored more explosive performances this year. Nolan\u2019s muse Cillian Murphy earns his first nomination for becoming father of the atomic bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer, while Paul Giamatti steps back into the spotlight 25 years after Sideways with his comical yet poignant work in The Holdovers. But considering Mr. DiCaprio\u2019s supermodel paramour du jour now includes Oscar winner Camila Morrone, we\u2019re certain he won\u2019t be crying into his Kentucky bourbon.<\/p>\n

                                                As always with Oscar nominees, the fashion takes center stage as well. We expect Lily Gladstone to embrace her Native American roots on the big night with stunning beaded creations by designer Loren Aragon. Newcomer America Ferrera caused red carpet whiplash at last week\u2019s Golden Globes with her scarlet Alexis Mabille ball gown, no doubt rivaling her sassy supporting turn in Barbie.<\/p>\n

                                                As Oscars night creeps closer, the only thing certain is that this year\u2019s ceremony promises to be anything but predictable.
