Love and Marriage: Common Gets Candid About His Desire To Tie The Knot<\/p>\n

On Jan. 22, Common will be a guest on \u201cThe Jennifer Hudson Show,\u201d and he is expected to open up about his love life. In an intimate conversation on Today, rapper and actor Common opened up about his evolved views on relationships and marriage while possibly confirming his much-speculated romance with none other than the fabulous Jennifer Hudson.<\/p>\n

Sitting down with hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, the suave musician radiated a sense of growth and self-awareness as he reflected on his past approach to relationships. \u201cCertain things that I would do in relationships were based on childhood experiences and I wasn\u2019t being totally present in the relationship,\u201d confessed Common. \u201cI would carry things that had affected me before and would project that on to the person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through conscious work and self-reflection, the multi-talented artist has shifted perspectives for the better. \u201cOnce you start recognizing that and just having an understanding of \u2018I need to be present,\u2019 and you\u2019re conscious of that, you can step back and say, \u2018Hey, let me assess this and really be true and honest with what this relationship is.\u2019 And not bring my garbage, my baggage.\u201d Sage advice from someone clearly immersed in the life-long process of self-discovery. Setting boundaries has also been integral to Common\u2019s journey. \u201cThat\u2019s hard to do. And boundaries for yourself \u2014 that\u2019s what self-love is like.\u201d<\/p>\n

When quizzed about whether songstress Jennifer Hudson could potentially be \u201cthe one\u201d, Common responded thoughtfully, \u201cI feel like I have grown and the work that I\u2019ve done on myself has allowed me to see that I am a marrying type. I\u2019m capable of being married at this point in my life. At some point in my life, I may want to do that, but I\u2019ll know when the right time is.\u201d He added coyly, \u201cI would communicate with that person and if she\u2019s feeling that, then why not?\u201d<\/p>\n

The internet was set ablaze this past weekend when a teaser clip surfaced showing Common\u2019s recent playful appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. When Hudson probed the actor about his dating life, he proceeded to hint heavily that his perfect woman just might embody Hudson\u2019s extraordinary list of talents and achievements – an Oscar for Dreamgirls, coveted EGOT status, and her own talk show. \u201cWe had a little fun. I felt like why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are. And it felt good, it was fun, we had a good time,\u201d Common reflected to Kotb and Bush Hager. The duo was spotted courtside at NBA games, they are co-starring in the upcoming film Breathe, and they manage to find their way into each other\u2019s orbits with increasing frequency.<\/p>\n
