Jennifer Lawrence Makes A Comfortable Statement On The Cannes Red Carpet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennifer Lawrence proved she can make a statement without sacrificing comfort at the premiere of Anatomie D’une Chute (Anatomy Of A Fall) in Cannes yesterday. The actress initially walked the famous red carpet in a pair of co-ordinating red heels with her custom red crepe silk Dior couture gown. However, she later swapped into a pair of flat black flip-flops that peeked out from under the full layered skirt of her dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawrence’s shoe swap carries particular significance given Cannes’ history of imposing strict dress codes on women. For years, female attendees were controversially instructed they must wear heels on the red carpet, with some reports that women were turned away in 2015 for wearing flats. Many stars have since challenged the rule, with Kristen Stewart<\/a> infamously removing her Louboutin heels to go barefoot in 2018, declaring: “You can\u2019t ask people that any more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julia Roberts also made a memorable barefoot appearance on the Cannes red-carpet for the premiere of\u00a0Money Monster<\/em>\u00a0in 2016, removing her heels midway through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In swapping heels for flats, Lawrence aligned herself with a growing group of women calling out antiquated policies. Her flouting of the rules also garnered attention for speaking to the universal experience of being uncomfortable in heels for the sake of fashion.
