The incomparable Sergio Mendes, the Brazilian maestro who made bossa nova as cool as ice in a martini glass, has sadly taken his final bow at the age of 83. But oh, what a legacy he leaves behind!<\/p>\n

Picture this: It’s the swinging sixties, and while rock-and-roll is screaming rebellion, Mendes sweeps in with Brasil ’66, offering a sound so smooth it could make silk jealous. This musical visionary, once under the wing of bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim, crafted a sound that was part Rio beach party, part Hollywood glamour.<\/p>\n
