Love and Marriage: Common Gets Candid About His Desire To Tie The Knot
On Jan. 22, Common will be a guest on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” and he is expected to open up about his love life. In an intimate conversation on Today, rapper and actor Common opened up about his evolved views on relationships and marriage while possibly confirming his much-speculated romance with none other than the fabulous Jennifer Hudson.
Sitting down with hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, the suave musician radiated a sense of growth and self-awareness as he reflected on his past approach to relationships. “Certain things that I would do in relationships were based on childhood experiences and I wasn’t being totally present in the relationship,” confessed Common. “I would carry things that had affected me before and would project that on to the person.”
Through conscious work and self-reflection, the multi-talented artist has shifted perspectives for the better. “Once you start recognizing that and just having an understanding of ‘I need to be present,’ and you’re conscious of that, you can step back and say, ‘Hey, let me assess this and really be true and honest with what this relationship is.’ And not bring my garbage, my baggage.” Sage advice from someone clearly immersed in the life-long process of self-discovery. Setting boundaries has also been integral to Common’s journey. “That’s hard to do. And boundaries for yourself — that’s what self-love is like.”
When quizzed about whether songstress Jennifer Hudson could potentially be “the one”, Common responded thoughtfully, “I feel like I have grown and the work that I’ve done on myself has allowed me to see that I am a marrying type. I’m capable of being married at this point in my life. At some point in my life, I may want to do that, but I’ll know when the right time is.” He added coyly, “I would communicate with that person and if she’s feeling that, then why not?”

I felt like why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are. And it felt good, it was fun, we had a good time,” Common reflected to Kotb and Bush Hager.
