Their clandestine staircase encounter at Bridgerton House crackles with chemistry, yet Benedict’s words—intended as a grand romantic gesture within the suffocating constraints of Regency society—send Sophie fleeing into the night without answer.
“For Sophie, the idea of being a mistress is the worst possible thing she could be asked,” reveals showrunner Jess Brownell in an exclusive insight into our heroine’s psyche. “Sophie really doesn’t want to ever put a child in the situation she was in,” Brownell explains. “Despite societal rules, there is a part of Sophie that’s hoping that Benedict could see beyond [the ton] and that what they have is so special it could overcome the obstacles of class.”
